"Hearts Lust in Limbo", released in 1991, features "Sacred Bells" from Tel Basta's first release. This CD was the fifth in the Doctor Death series, put out by C'est La Mort, which was to eventually be the label that would release "Laid UP In Lavender", Tel Basta's second release.

The Doctor Death series continued with "Floribundus". By this time, "Laid Up In Lavender" was being completed, and an early version of "Watering the Seed" appeared on this compilation. This release really marked the turning point for Tel Basta, finally signed and determined to make the best music of their career.

In 1993, Dewdrops released a compilation CD of 4AD covers. Tel Basta was asked to contribute and they quickly went into the studio to record their cover of the Modern English hit "I Melt With You". The song highlights Tel Basta's softer, almost folk, period with an emphasis on acoustic instruments and a lighter approach to their overall style.
